History
Fredericksburg: A Legendary Texas Town.
Fredericksburg, Texas was first settled in 1846 by a hearty group of 120 German immigrants. The rich land between the Llano and Colorado Rivers offered ample opportunity for farming and ranching. All of the town's original structures and houses were built from scratch by the community's resident craftsmen. Many original structures are still standing. The Vereins-Kirche, which served for fifty years as a church, school, fortress, and meeting hall, has been reconstructed at MarkPlatz on the town's Main Street. The town's characteristic Sunday Houses were built to house farm families when they came into town to shop or attend Sunday services. Boot Ranch has created a new vision of this idea for modern visitors. Fredericksburg is also notable as the birthplace of Admiral Chester Nimitz?commander of the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII. A museum has been built in his honor. The town is also known for its quaint shops and excellent restaurants as well as for its surrounding vineyards, wildflower farm, lavender farms, and peach orchards.
